As another school year comes to a close, I write to share exciting news and a preview of future changes to our program. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Episcopal will be adding a full day schedule for children in their pre-kindergarten year. At that time, our structure will remain a Half Day program (3 hours) for children in the 2s, 3s, and young 4s classes, and a Full Day program (6 hours) for children in the older 4s and 5s classes.
The new Full Day plan will enhance our program in a child-centered and developmentally appropriate way. The longer day will provide additional opportunities for children to grow and learn through a variety of structured activities and free play experiences. Curriculum will include more in-depth literacy, math, science and exploration. Children will eat lunch at school and will have increased time for socialization and community building experiences.
We are also very pleased to note that we will be able to implement this plan in our current building, which has been so central to the Episcopal experience for decades. To do so, while remaining compliant with applicable regulatory limitations, we intend to modestly lower headcount over the next few years to provide space for the Full Day pre-kindergarten classes beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. This will allow our program to change over time, gradually integrating Full Day pre-kindergarten classes. Due to capacity constraints, we are not able to implement this program sooner than the 2026-2027 school year.
We look forward to sharing more information in early 2024.
