Once a week, students in Groups Four through Eight visit the school library in the Red Rug Room. The children are given the opportunity to select two books to check out and take home for the week.
During library, children listen to lessons that range from learning about book circulation to fiction and nonfiction. After a brief lesson and a group story, each child can independently browse the books.
Parent volunteers and teachers guide children through the process of selecting books. In this intimate small-group setting, children are encouraged to find stories that excite them and build independence in their library experience. Once books are selected and checked out, children have the option to independently explore their new stories or have an adult read their book aloud.
Episcopal’s Library program works to inspire students to develop a love of literature and a comfort in exploring new titles, authors, and genres. It is also a special way for parents to become involved in the Episcopal community.
